Women’s Soccer Falls to Georgetown, 2-0
October 4, 2019
On a chilly, rainy Thursday, Villanova found themselves in a Big East conference matchup with the No. 11 ranked Georgetown Hoyas. The Wildcats couldn’t find their footing throughout the match, ending in a 2-0 loss.
The first half was played relatively even. Both squads were getting a feel for how the other wanted to play, and also adjusting to the conditions of the afternoon.
Georgetown would play with more offensive assertiveness than the Wildcats in the second half, as they scored in the first minute after the Hoyas’ forward Jenna Menta put one past goalkeeper Rebecca Gartner. In the 80th minute, the Hoyas would get on the board again, this time on a penalty kick by forward Paula Germino-Watnick.
The Wildcat offense failed to get any good opportunities throughout the game, as Georgetown outshot Villanova, 15-6, with five of the Hoya’s shots being on goal compared to ‘Nova’s three. With Georgetown’s clean sheet, that makes it four consecutive matches without allowing a goal.
With the loss, the Wildcats are now 5-4-2 with a 1-1 record in Big East play. Looking ahead, the ‘Cats will look to right the ship with a road matchup against their conference rival, the Butler Bulldogs, on Sunday, October 6th. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
