Wildcats Outmatched by No. 3 Georgetown

Earlier today, the Villanova Wildcats hosted the Georgetown University Hoyas in a Big East conference matchup. The ‘Cats were looking to snap their three-game losing streak as well as earn their second Big East win of the season. The Hoyas went into the match looking to continue their seven-game winning streak and remain undefeated atop the Big East. Villanova suffered another defeat, losing 2-0, falling to 8-8-1 overall and 1-6-1 in the Big East.

The first half ended with ‘Nova behind 1-0. The goal came in the 26th minute when Georgetown was awarded a penalty kick. Junior forward Derek Dodson was able to get it to the back of the net, giving the Hoyas their first score of the game. The Wildcats had a chance to go up early in the 6th minute, when  a shot by senior midfielder Evan Vare was saved by the Hoyas’ goalkeeper. Overall, Georgetown was more aggressive, out-shooting Villanova 10-3.

The second half came with another goal by the Hoyas. In the 72nd minute, junior goalkeeper Carson Williams saved a shot attempt by senior forward Achara that rebounded to the feet of junior midfielder Jacob Montes. He was able to capitalize on the opportunity and give Georgetown a 2-0 lead late in the game. The Hoyas were still able to push the pace against ‘Nova, outshooting them again in the second half 12-5.

A notable performance came in today’s match from ‘Nova’s goalkeeper Carson Williams. With 9 saves throughout the game, Williams was able to keep the game close, disallowing many potential goals for the Hoyas.

The Wildcats next travel to New Jersey where they will face Seton Hall in another Big East matchup. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m on Wednesday, Nov. 6.
