Men’s and Women’s Tennis Open Up Season

Last weekend, the women’s tennis team opened the spring season with a road series. The ‘Cats split the series, defeating George Mason on Saturday 5-2, but falling to Navy on Sunday, 6-1.
In Virginia, the team swept all three doubles matches. ‘Nova also went on to win four out of six singles matches. Senior Kaylan Rotman, senior Carina Burdick, sophomore Olivia Kapp and freshman Caitlin Fisher secured the Wildcats’ four singles wins.
Although junior Claudia Althans and Rotman won their doubles set against Navy, and the team lost the doubles point to Navy. The Wildcats’ lone point of the match came from Fisher, who won her singles set 7-5, 1-6, 6-4.
Next up, the women’s team will travel to Lehigh on Saturday, Feb. 1.
On Sunday, the men’s team traveled to Delaware to face the Blue Hens in its first match of the spring season. The ‘Cats lost 4-3, giving them a 0-1 mark for the season.
Senior Tyler Roth and junior Daniel Martinez, along with seniors Danny Flanagan and Tommy Mulflur, won the doubles point for the team. Roth and freshman Alex Kim were the only players to win their singles match and the team went 2-4 overall in singles.
