Bey’s Three-Point Barrage Carries ‘Cats Past Hoyas

Jack Sullivan

A career high 33 points from Saddiq Bey propelled Villanova to a 80-66 victory over Georgetown at the Wells Fargo Center Saturday. The win brings ‘Nova to 12-3 overall and 3-1 in the Big East.

Georgetown kept the game close in the first half, with ‘Nova holding a 39-36 lead at intermission. A 7-0 run to open the second half gave the Wildcats a comfortable lead that they would hold for the rest of the game. Georgetown was within single digits for the majority of the game, but their seven man rotation suffered from fatigue towards the end, and eventually went down by as much as 17. Villanova kept the pressure on by taking 29 threes, making 15 of them.

Bey took advantage of favorable matchups throughout the entire game. He hit eight three pointers, tying a school record for threes made by a single player in a game. Jeremiah Robinson-Earl contributed 14 points along with seven rebounds. Collin Gillespie has 11 points and five assists, and Brandon Slater had a pair of key putback dunks late in the second half. The Hoyas were surprisingly led by Freshman center Qudus Wahab, who had 13 points. Star guard Mac McClung shot 3-15 and scored only 8 points.

The game was the first of a four-game home stand for the Wildcats. They will host DePaul on Tuesday at the Finneran Pavillion. They will then head back to South Philly next Saturday for a non conference matchup with the UConn Huskies.
