Men’s Tennis Defeat the Huskies, 6-1, at Home

The Wildcats faced UConn Saturday at Bryn Mawr Racquet Club in just their second match of the year. Villanova dominated in all phases, sweeping all three doubles matches, and winning five out of six singles matches to get the win, 6-1, over the Huskies. 

Villanova’s Dylan Flanagan and Tommy Mulfur defeated UConn’s Gore/Riemann, 6-2, to get the win started. Then, Stefan Suarez and Justin Suarez won their match against the team of Provenzano/Holtman, 6-4. Finally, Tyler Roth and Daniel Martinez defeated UConn’s Zheng/Scheetz, 6-3, to complete the doubles sweep for the ‘Cats.

In Singles, Mulfur started off the victory, by defeating Provenzano, 6-2, 6-3. Dylan Flanagan added another point after defeating Zheng 6-4, 6-2. Stefan Suarez clinched it for ‘Nova after defeating Scheetz of UConn, 6-4, 6-4. After the match was clinched, Roth defeated Holtman 6-4, 6-4. Alex Kim defeated Powell of UConn, 6-7(5), 6-3, 10-6. Finally, Gore of UConn got them on the board after defeating Justin Suarez, 7-6(4), 4-6, 12-10. 

Villanova, now 1-1, will face Coppin State University at home on Feb. 8.

Up next, the team welcomes Coppin State to the Bryn Mawr Racquet Club on Sat. at 6:30 p.m.
