Villanova added to its 2021 recruiting class Thursday night when guard Jordan Longino announced on Twitter that he was choosing the Wildcats over Indiana, Florida and Maryland, among others. Longino is ranked 96th in 247Sports Composite Rankings and is ranked 21st in the country among shooting guards. 

Longino is a 4-star prospect from Fort Washington, Pa., and is heading into his senior season at nearby Germantown Academy, only 12 miles from Villanova’s campus. The Pennsylvania native is listed at 6-5 and 170 pounds, though it is likely he’s filled out his frame some over the past few months.

Longino gave his reasoning behind the commitment to Jake Weingarten of Stockrisers.com, saying, “I just felt ‘Nova fit me the best on and off the court. ‘Nova has been recruiting me since I was a sophomore, so I have developed a strong relationship with every coach on their staff.”

On the court, Longino’s best skill is his shot. He knocked down over 40% of his shots from three-point range in his junior season and is almost automatic from the free-throw line. He’s more of a shooting guard than a point guard, but has a decent passing ability and should be able to spend some time as the primary initiator, if necessary. 

In addition to his basketball skills, Longino has served as the quarterback for his school’s football team.

Longino is added to a class that already includes two 4-stars, in Trey Patterson and Nnanna Njoku. The addition of Longino moves the Wildcats to No. 3 in the 2021 class rankings, per 247Sports, behind only Ohio State and Baylor. 

The Wildcats aren’t done in 2021 either, as they are looking for another guard or even two to fill out the class. With the senior class of Collin Gillespie, Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree, and Jermaine Samuels set to depart and sophomore Jeremiah Robinson-Earl likely departing to the NBA Draft, there will be plenty of roster spots available for the 2021 class. 

Head coach Jay Wright is still after several guards, such as 6-3 Angelo Brizzi and 6-1 Rahsool Diggins, who attends Archbishop Wood, Gillespie’s alma mater, and 6-4 wing Trevor Keels, who is ranked in the top 20 in the 2021 class.
