Archbishop Carroll class of 2026 guard Alexis Eberz is staying close to home. She announced her verbal commitment to Villanova University on her social media on June 27.
Eberz selected Villanova out of a long list of 19 offers, including Marquette University, Princeton University, Drexel University, Saint Joseph’s University and the University of Pennsylvania.
It came down to Villanova and Marquette as her two finalists.
At Carroll last season, Eberz eclipsed her 1,000th career point and guided her team to win the PIAA District XII 6A Girls’ Basketball Championship. She collected a career-high 30 points on Feb. 17 in the PCL Semifinals at a place that will soon become home, Villanova University.
During her sophomore year, Archbishop Carroll won the PIAA 6A Girls’ Basketball State Championship.
Eberz ended her junior season averaging 17.3 points per game.
Entering her senior year, she currently sits in Carroll’s starting lineup alongside her two younger sisters, Kelsey and Kayla.
The Eberz family is no stranger to Villanova — both of Alexis’ parents were once a part of Villanova basketball. Her father, Eric Eberz, was a forward for the team from 1992 to 1996, where he became one of the 48 men to collect 1,300 career points as a Wildcat.
Alexis’ mother, Michele Eberz, known as Michelle Thornton during her playing days, was a guard for the Wildcats from 1991 to 1995, where she collected 409 assists, the ninth most in school history.
Eric and Michelle went on to get married at Villanova. If any place is a second home for Eberz, it is Villanova’s campus.
Eberz still has one final season as a senior at Archbishop Carroll before she will join the Wildcats next summer.
