On Monday, April 11, sophomore Temple transfer Zion Stanford announced his commitment to Villanova.
Joe Tipton of On3Sports first reported the news after Stanford told him of his decision.
The Philadelphia native averaged 13.1 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game this season at Temple. He shot 45.5% from the field and 34.9% from three-point range.
Stanford spent the last two seasons as an Owl, a Big 5 rival for the Wildcats. When Villanova and Temple faced off at the Big 5 Classic on Dec. 7, Stanford recorded 11 points and four rebounds in the 94-65 loss to the Wildcats.
Stanford was a three-star recruit out of West Catholic Prep, according to On3Sports. He was the No. 11 overall prospect in the state of Pennsylvania out of high school in 2023.
Stanford marks the first offseason pickup for new Villanova head coach Kevin Willard, apart from players previously associated with Maryland. Stanford will join two other Willard recruits: freshman guard Chris Jeffery, a former Maryland commit, and sophomore guard Malachi Palmer, a Maryland transfer.
Villanova still has seven remaining scholarships to fill this offseason. Most recently, Maryland transfer Rodney Rice visited Villanova’s campus on Friday, April 11.
