On Friday, April 11, freshman guard Aleksandar Gavalyugov entered his name into the transfer portal.
Verbal Commits first reported the news on X (formerly known as Twitter).
Gavalyugov appeared in four games off the bench this season for the Wildcats, averaging 4.8 minutes and two points.
He scored a career-high six points on Dec. 7 against Temple in the Big 5 Tournament.
The Bulgarian guard graduated from the NBA Global Academy in Australia and signed with Villanova in July 2024.
Before becoming a Wildcat, Gavalyugov played in the 2024 Adidas EuroCamp. He averaged 15.7 points, 5.0 rebounds and 6.3 assists. At last summer’s FIBA U18 European Championship Division B, he averaged 19.4 points, six rebounds and 8.4 assists.
Gavalyugov was one of four high school recruits brought in last off-season. The other three included Matthew Hodge, Malcolm Thomas, and Josiah Moseley.
Moseley entered the transfer portal on Wednesday, April 9. The two freshmen join redshirt junior Nnanna Njoku and redshirt freshman Kris Parker, who are also in the transfer portal.
As of April 11, Villanova now has eight open spots that will need to be filled by new head coach Kevin Willard and staff.
Gavalyugov has three years of eligibility remaining.
