Villanova men’s basketball picked up its second transfer of the offseason in former Maryland guard Malachi Palmer. On Sunday, April 6, Palmer announced he was transferring to Villanova on his social media.
Palmer, a current freshman, will be a sophomore during the 2025-26 season. He will have three years of eligibility remaining as a Wildcat.

The Maryland transfer will follow his coach, Kevin Willard, who recently left Maryland to take the head coaching job at Villanova. Willard was the head coach of Maryland at the time of Palmer’s recruitment.
Palmer entered the transfer portal on Tuesday, April 1 — the same day it was announced that former Texas A&M coach Buzz Williams would take over at Maryland.
Palmer played in 22 games off the bench for Maryland this past season. He averaged 8.4 minutes, 1.6 points and 1.4 rebounds per game.
In high school, Palmer hit the 1,000-point threshold, playing two years at Central Dauphin in Pennsylvania and two at Mt. Zion in Arizona. He was the No. 119 overall recruit in the 2024 recruiting class.
While he can score, Palmer thrives in the ability to defend multiple positions on the floor.
Palmer will join his high school teammate, Chris Jeffery, who also just committed to Villanova.
