On Saturday, March 29, former Villanova cornerback Christian Benford agreed to a four-year, $76 million contract extension with the Buffalo Bills. The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport first reported the news on X (formerly known as Twitter).
The extension comes out to an average of $19 million a year.

In his four seasons at Villanova from 2018 to 2021, Benford finished with 137 total tackles, 14 interceptions, 47 pass breakups and three tackles for loss in 37 career games.
In his senior season, he played in all 13 games for the Wildcats and collected 39 total tackles, seven interceptions, and an FCS-leading 18 pass breakups. His performance earned him AP FCS All-American First Team, Stats Perform All-American First Team, Hero Sports FCS All-American First Team, and CAA Football First Team Defense honors.
The Bills selected Benford on the final day of the 2022 NFL Draft in the sixth round with the 185th overall pick. He was the first Wildcat to be selected in the NFL Draft since 2017.
In his NFL career, Benford has played in 39 games and has started in 34 of them. He has totaled five career interceptions, 142 total tackles (110 solo) and one sack.
Benford had a breakout this past season, starting in all of Buffalo’s 15 games. He recorded two interceptions, 64 total tackles (50 solo), three tackles for a loss and one sack.
