Class of 2025 guard Dante Allen decommitted from Villanova on Friday, March 21. The Villanovan confirmed the news after it was first reported by CBS’s Jon Rothstein on X (formerly known as Twitter).
“After careful consideration, Dante has made the decision to re-open his recruitment,” Allen and his father Malik Allen said in a statement on his social media page. “Our family is forever grateful for the role Villanova University has played in our life. Dante formed a special bond with the coaching staff there. Given the recent announcement of a leadership change, we feel it is best to explore our options as Dante considers his next step.”
Allen announced his verbal commitment to Villanova on Oct. 16, 2024, and signed his written letter of intent on Nov. 14, 2024.
College athletes are allowed 30 days to decommit from a school or enter the transfer portal after a coaching change is made to the program.
The four-star guard is the son of former Villanova forward Malik Allen and chose Villanova from a final three that also included Tennessee and Georgia.
The six-foot-three guard currently attends Montverde Academy. This past season as a senior, Allen averaged 11.7 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.8 assists over 26 games.
Allen was the Wildcats’ lone recruit from the class of 2025. Villanova now has zero high school recruits joining the program this offseason. The team will need to focus on the transfer portal to replace a roster that is losing its entire starting lineup.
