Villanova track and field has three Wildcats participating in the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships; Dan Watke, Marco Langon, and Liam Murphy.
Starting on Friday, March 14, the fastest collegiate athletes in the country will be competing at the Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach, VA for a two-day meet.
Sophomore distance runner Dan Watcke will compete in the 800-meter preliminaries on Friday. Junior distance runner Marco Langon will run in the 5K finals on Friday and the 3K finals on Saturday. Lastly, fifth-year Liam Murphy will be in the same races (3K and 5K) as training partner and competitor, Langon.
Murphy, the six-time program record holder, Murphy will compete in his final indoor meet of his collegiate career. His 3K record of 7:35.57 was set on Feb. 8 at the Bruce-Lehane Scarlet and White Invite. Murphy also holds the indoor record in the 5k. With a time of 12:21.2 set in December 2023, Murphy hopes to shatter his records once again. Last year, Murphy placed fourth in Indoor Nationals for the 3K.
Watke holds the two fastest indoor times for the 800m in Villanova history. His personal best of 1:46.32 was set at the Penn State Open back on Jan 31. Just two weeks ago, Watke achieved second place in the 800-meter at the Big East Championships.
This time last year, Langon had a time of 8:00.83 in the 3k at the 2024 championships. Fast forward to Feb 8 in Boston, Langon scored a time of 7:36.87 to set his new personal best. With a time of 12:21.20 from last April, Langon is looking to break his 5K personal best this weekend as well.
After the Big East Indoor Championships, Villanova Men’s Track and Field is currently ranked No. 8 in the country. Last year, the men’s team accomplished 19th place out of 58 teams in the championships in Boston, MA. The 2025 NCAA Indoor DI Championships begin on Friday afternoon on ESPN+.
