In a statement released by Villanova Athletics, redshirt junior forward Nnanna Njoku underwent arthroscopic left knee surgery on Wednesday, Jan. 15.
Njoku last played for the Wildcats in their 86-72 win over FDU on Dec. 11. In his last game, he played seven minutes, collecting two points and one rebound.
“We’re disappointed for Nnanna that he is dealing with another injury setback,” Villanova head coach Kyle Neptune said to Villanova Athletics. “He gave us quality minutes at the forward position earlier this season and we’ll miss the energy he brings to the court every day. As he has before, Nnanna will bring a great attitude to his recovery and continue to take pride in doing everything he can to support his teammates and coaches.”
Njoku played in 10 contests this season before the injury, averaging 9.5 minutes per game.
The six-foot-nine forward has battled injuries in all four seasons at Villanova. Last year, his season was cut short in January 2024 due to surgery on a right knee injury. A right foot injury in the 2022-23 season limited him to four games.
The Villanova roster is already down freshman forward Matthew Hodge (eligibility) and Malcolm Thomas (left knee soreness).
Villanova currently is 12-6 overall and 4-3 in the Big East. The Wildcats will host Providence (9-9, 3-4 Big East) on Friday, Jan. 17 at the Wells Fargo Center (7 p.m., FS1).
