As the December air grows colder, students keep warm inside as they start studying for finals. Many students have expressed their thoughts about this finals season, especially with Thanksgiving Break ending on Dec. 1. Many students are frustrated about the short time they are back on campus for finals.
“I’m feeling a little overwhelmed for finals because it is such a quick turnaround,” junior Sasha Shanker said. “We had a lot of assessments before Thanksgiving Break, and as soon as we got back, we are preparing for finals.”
“I feel very stressed that everything is being jammed into two weeks,” sophomore Ollie Currier said. “I wish everything was more spread out.”
Moreover, students expressed their struggles to focus on schoolwork after the Thanksgiving holiday and with Winter Break coming soon.
“We got to go home, and it was nice and relaxing, but the second we are back, we are in go-mode, and then we go back home again,” sophomore Annie Kinsella said. “It is hard to be motivated when there is such a short time to be here.”
“It’s been hard to stay focused on all the upcoming assignments as I feel distracted with the approaching holiday break,” sophomore Genna Cottingham said.
Many students find that their motivation has gone down since Thanksgiving Break, and it’s hard to study without procrastinating.
“The week before Thanksgiving was very relaxing in terms of workload, and then once I come back, everything is happening,” freshman Ryan Kim said. “I realized that my motivation has been decreasing, and my effectiveness in completing assignments has not been great.”
“Finals season this year is certainly a sharp transition from Thanksgiving Break, making motivation difficult,” sophomore Kirtana Kunzweiler said.
However, with the different festive events happening during these next couple of weeks, students feel they can still enjoy the holiday season while balancing their academics.
“Finals week is hard to get through, but because campus is decorated and we have events like the tree lighting, it reminds me that good things are coming,” sophomore Noelle Barzack said.
“I think having holiday events during these weeks is a wonderful way to take a little break from work and bring up the overall spirit,” sophomore Stephanie Ticas said.
Overall, the students have been feeling stressed since the quick turnaround from Thanksgiving Break. However, as Villanova hosts events to bring in the holiday spirit, students see the light at the end of the tunnel. Best of luck on finals, Wildcats.
