No. 21 Creighton (14–3, 5–2 Big East) beat Villanova on Sunday afternoon in the Finneran Pavilion, 63–49. The game was the Wildcats’ second straight game against a ranked opponent. Coming off a victory over No. 22 Marquette, Villanova could not replicate its winning performance.
The loss puts Villanova at 12–6 overall and 5–2 in conference, currently third place in the Big East. The loss also halts a six-game win streak that started on Dec. 21.
The Wildcats never led in the game. The only tie of the game was early, 2–2.
Villanova could not connect on its long-distance attempts. It went 0–for–17 from beyond the arc.
Junior guard Lucy Olsen finished with 29 points, accompanied by seven rebounds, three assists and a steal. Junior guard Zanai Jones also had a productive game, scoring eight. Junior forward Christina Dalce tacked on six points and nine rebounds. Creighton’s senior guard/forward Morgan Maly had a double-double performance, scoring 24 and adding 13 rebounds.
The Wildcats struggled to overcome a poor offensive performance. Overall, they shot 21–for–64, or 32.8%, below their season average of 39.8%.
Villanova will look to move on from this performance in its next game on Wednesday, Jan. 24, as the ‘Cats will travel to Rhode Island to take on Providence. The game is scheduled to start at 7 P.M. and can be streamed on FloHoops.
