Villanova Men’s Soccer released its 2022 schedule Tuesday afternoon. The schedule features nine home games, all to be played at Higgins Soccer Complex, and eight away games. 

The non-conference schedule features Stanford, Cal, Northwestern, Yale, the New Jersey Institute of Technology, Penn State and Navy. The Big East portion of the schedule will see the ‘Cats take on Providence, St. John’s, Creighton, Marquette, Xavier, Butler, Georgetown, UConn, Seton Hall and DePaul.

Georgetown headlines the schedule as the Wildcats’ toughest challenger after a 14-2-0 2021 campaign ending in the semifinals of the College Cup. The Hoyas will visit the Main Line on Oct. 15, with kickoff scheduled for 1 P.M..

The season will start with a trip out west to face Stanford on Aug. 25 and Cal on Aug. 28. Cal ranked 87th in the 2021 RPI, while Stanford ranked 44th. The ‘Cats then return home for a matchup of Wildcats against Northwestern, a squad they beat 2-0 in Evanston last season. 

Villanova will play six matches in September, including a match against their toughest non-conference foe, Penn State. The Nittany Lions will visit Villanova Sept. 28. Penn State finished the 2021 season ranked 24th in the United Soccer Coaches’ Poll, beating the Wildcats 4-0 in September 2021.

The Wildcats will look to build off of an impressive 2021 campaign that included their first win in the College Cup in program history.
