On Saturday, it was announced that Villanova graduate guard Collin Gillespie was awarded the 2022 Bob Cousy Award, given annually to the nation’s top point guard.

Gillespie becomes the second Villanova player to win the award, as Jalen Brunson took home the honor in 2018. Brunson, Gillespie’s former teammate, won the award in a campaign where he led the ‘Cats to a national title, a performance Gillespie will look to replicate beginning Saturday against Kansas.

Gillespie beat out Baylor’s James Akinjo, Kentucky’s Sahvir Wheeler, Gonzaga’s Andrew Nembhard and UCLA’s Tyger Campbell for the award.

Gillespie averages 34.1 minutes per game for the ‘Cats, posting 15.6 points, 3.3 assists and 3.9 rebounds on average.

The award, facilitated by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, is one of many this season for Gillespie. Gillespie was also named a third team AP All-American and Big East Player of the Year this season.

Other past winners of the Cousy award include NBA All-Stars Ja Morant and Kemba Walker.

The ‘Cats, spearheaded by Gillespie, look to extend their season one more game tonight at 6:09 P.M. as they take on Kansas in the NCAA Tournament. The winner will advance to the National Championship game on Monday at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.
