A 2-2 record at the Southern Championships last weekend at the Villanova Swim Center was enough to send the Wildcats to the next round of the postseason, the Eastern Championships, which begin today at Princeton University in New Jersey.

Joining Villanova at Princeton will be the top five finishers in the Southern Division, including the host team Princeton, Indiana, George Washington, Bucknell and first-time Southern Division champion Michigan.

In its final match of the tournament held on Sunday, Villanova fell to Bucknell, 10-8, in the fifth-place consolation game.

The match came down to the final minutes, as the Bison were able to hold off the ’Cats, outscoring them 3-1 in the final period.

Villanova was led offensively by senior standout Erin Agee, who scored three goals in the game to raise her weekend total to an astounding fifteen.

Prior to their matchup with Bucknell, the ’Cats defeated Slippery Rock, 7-4 and Washington & Jefferson, 18-5, after falling to nationally-ranked Indiana in the tournament opener.

Against Slippery Rock, Agee was once again the star, as the senior put the Wildcats on her back in scoring four of the team’s seven goals to earn ’Nova a spot in the fifth-place game.

Goalkeeper Carly Sproul was also instrumental in the ’Cats’ clutch victory, making several key stops down the stretch.

Villanova’s match with Washington & Jefferson was not a contest, as the ’Cats opened up a 7-0 lead behind five goals from Agee, cruising to the blowout win.

With ’Nova’s 2-2 record in the tournament, they now stand at 7-17 on the year.
