Girgenti: Identifying the real terrorists

R. Colin Fly

There has been a lot of talk lately about terrorism and who terrorists are. While there is the obvious answer that the terrorists are the people who bomb embassies and fly planes into buildings, there is another answer that is not so obvious. So who are the real terrorists?

The real terrorists are the businesses that profit from murder. The real terrorists are the people who devote their genius to finding more efficient means to kill other humans. The real terrorists are the people whose devotion to profit is stronger than their respect for life. The real terrorists are the people who espouse violence as the only solution to all conflicts. The real terrorists are the lawmakers who consent to bills they know violate basic human rights instead of standing up for the principles America is supposed to stand for. The real terrorists are the companies which exist solely to sell weapons to the world. The real terrorists are the companies that develop weapons of mass destruction to sell to the United States and to the world.

The real terrorists are the countries that use their military might to bully the world into submission, whether in the United Nations or NATO. The real terrorists are those who will not listen to reason, but push for war against the wishes of the world’s people. The real terrorists are those who seek to silence all opposition to ensure only one viewpoint is ever heard. The real terrorists are the ones who keep us eternally afraid, of what we don’t know. The real terrorists are those who would use weapons of mass destruction, regardless of the reason. The real terrorists are those who would have us believe war creates peace, murder fosters life, and racism causes security. The real terrorists are those who would bring the world to the brink of nuclear war. The real terrorists are the ones who destroy the environment to improve their profit margins, forcing us to pay the price with our health and with nature’s beauty.

The real terrorists are those who destroy national economies to make a buck. The real terrorists are the ones who force their employees to work grueling hours for next to no compensation. The real terrorists are the ones who make millions while their employees starve to death. The real terrorists are the ones who destroy communities through unfair competition and call it free trade. The real terrorists are the companies that buy politicians, destroying democracy. The real terrorists would destroy America and the world in their unending greed.
