With all of life’s uncertanties here is … What I know for certain:

Melissa Leach

Well, here we are again, at the beginning of another school year. For some of us there are only a few more strides to the finish line. For others, the journey has just begun, and no matter what category you fall into the excitement of what the year may bring lies ahead. Will we land our dream job? Make the dean’s list? The uncertainty of the future is what makes life so exciting and oftentimes scary. But even in the midst of uncertainty lies something even better: possibility. We cannot always guarantee that life will go our way – that we will get the A or land the dream job. But we can always be sure that the possibility of success is within our reach, within our means and within us. Because …

Where there is possibility lies hope. Looking into the future is always an exciting adventure, for the future is ours to create. We take what we have in the present and set it into a reality that we hope to achieve one day. For seniors, the present may consist of reviewing what you have done over the past years and seeing where your experience and expertise can take you. As underclassmen you may see the possibility to redefine what you have been doing thus far in your college career in hopes that what you change will open the doors to more opportunities.

Where there is hope there is a will. When we believe there is hope to achieve a goal, we instill in ourselves a will to make that goal a reality. When we are willing to recognize what it takes to be what we want to be or do what we want to do, we have accepted the terms that come along with making our goals happen. Rocky didn’t make it to the top step of the Philadelphia Art Museum because he was young, in shape and had Adrienne to support him, he made it because he had a will to get himself to the top – not only to the top of the steps but to the top of his career. As college students, if we hope to achieve good academic standing, a position in a club or organization, or a great job, we must have a will to drive us.

Where there is a will there is a way. If we want to go anywhere in life we must have a way to get there. You can’t find a place you’ve never been without some direction. When you are willing to do what it takes to make things happen, you give yourself the direction you need to get where you are going. If you want that A, you study diligently and stay organized. You know that if you stay on that road of diligence and organization, you will eventually get that A.

Where there is possibility lies hope. Where there is hope there is a will. Where there is will there is a way. Start the year off right. Realize the multitude of possibilities that lie in front of you and be delighted in the hope that it gives you. Find the passion, find your will and you will surely find your way. Good luck!
