Changes in R5 service pushed back

Melissa Weigel

Due to budget constraints and loss of state funding, SEPTA planned to increases fares and limit weekend service on the R5 train that runs through campus. These changes were originally scheduled to be implemented on Feb. 27; however, that date has been moved to March 6. The city of Philadelphia has brought a lawsuit against SEPTA objecting to the proposed changes, and the date of the hearing has been moved to Feb. 28. The judge in the case has an order preventing SEPTA from executing its plans until after the hearing.
