Lacrosse fighting for first win
March 31, 2005
There’s not much one can say about a team that starts off 0-8, but the Villanova women’s lacrosse team can never be accused of playing in neutral.
The ladies have fought hard and lost some heart-breakers. They have lost half of their games by two points or less, and most recently took LeMoyne into overtime before falling 12-11. At the halfway point of the season, the Wildcats find themselves with no wins.
Wednesday’s tightly-contested battle featured a hat rack (three hat tricks), three goals each by Kathleen Kelly, Alex Garvey and Becky Gardner. The talented-trio also scored in last Saturday’s game against American. Bess Hanley and Amy Rocap also each added tallies.
Throughout the match against the Eagles, the lead went back and forth between the two teams with neither team ever trailing by more than two scores.
The ‘Cats are led this season by the second year Gardner, who has scored 19 goals, almost doubling number-two Rocap’s 10. Rocap also has three assists, making her second in assists on the team.
The team starts the second half with high hopes and a match against Lehigh at home on April 2. Hopefully, a little homefield advantage will get them the win they so richly deserve.
