Graduate student recognized by AP

Ian Bush, a graduate student in the Communications program was recognized in the most recent Pennsylvania Associated Press awards ceremony. For his documentary “Voices of Reading,” Bush received first place honors.

The documentary investigates the experience of white-Americans and Hispanic-Americans, two groups around which are drawn the most contentious lines in the Philadelphia’s struggle to emerge from bitter battle lines that center on ethnicity.

The documentary competed among others in the “Student Radio” category, and aired on WXVU, the University’s radio station. The radio documentary was done in conjunction with Sheryl Bowen’s “Leadership and Diversity” class.

Comments from judges of the event were unanimously positive saying, “Far and away the best of the student entries. There was an excellent use of many diverse voices to describe the differing versions of the American dream and how ethnic barriers and prejudices impact that dream.”
