Last Thursday, the men’s tennis team (1-0) began the dual portion of their season against La Salle (2-2). For those who are not familiar with this term, it simply refers to the fall season, which has less bearing on NCAA national championship than their spring season. Villanova swept LaSalle 7-0 last Thursday at Belfield Courts. Junior Scott Fahrendorf and teammate Charlie Farmer led the team, winning doubles with an 8-1 win in the top doubles slot. Fahrendorf then went on to win his singles match, becoming team’s only double winner.

After a grueling schedule of three tournaments in three weekends, the team refused to show any signs of fatigue. The Wildcats won two out of the three doubles matches which granted them the doubles points. They won all six singles matches in straight sets granting them the 7-0 win.

Fahrendorf and Farmer defeated Scott Karwowski and Jonathan Maula . More Wildcat doubles winners included partners Sumanth Chittajallu and Sean Daly who beat Ross Flockerzie and Christian Harvey 8-2. Larry Tran and Matthew Krawczyk of Villanova, however, lost in a close 8-7 match to Eric Glick and Matt Rivera.

In the singles matches, Villanova completely dominated La Salle. Each of the Villanova players beat their competitors within two sets. Dimitri Chimerakis trounced Ross Flockerzie 6-1 and 6-0. Likewise, Scott Fahrendorf defeated Scott Karwowski 6-0 and 6-2. Brian Maher also dominated his match against Matt Rivera with wins of 6-2 and 6-1. Brett Tobin defeated Eric Glick 6-4, 6-4. Alexander Leeser beat Chris Butera 6-4 and 6-0 and Corey Grad beat Jonathan Maula 6-1, 6-2. All in all, it was a good day for Wildcat tennis.

The match against Fordham University scheduled for Saturday afternoon was postponed indefinitely.
