Season Recap: Women’s Tennis
May 2, 2007
The women’s tennis team ended its mediocre spring season on a high note with its most lopsided win of the year, a victory over Big East rival Georgetown by a score of 6-1. The ‘Cats finished the season with a record of 3-8.
Despite the sub-par record, the team showed a great deal of individual promise throughout the season. One of the consistent bright spots was freshman Carla Erskine. Erskine went 7-2 in singles matches for the year and was also a regular on the doubles court. The freshman held down the No. 4 singles spot for the entire year and will be a source of wins in seasons to come.
Another positive for the women’s team is its youth. Out of a 12-person squad, only three will be graduating. Only one of the eight remaining players is a junior. Although the team will miss senior Candice Carlin, who has been the No. 1 singles player all four of her years at Villanova and also half of the No. 1 doubles pair, and No. 3 singles/No. 2 doubles player senior Leighann Reilly, the abundance of talented youth will carry the Wildcats to successful seasons for years to come.
