Season Recap: Rowing
May 1, 2007
As the school year comes to an end and the always-dreaded week of finals begins, the rowing team still has two races to focus on before the start of the summer. At the Big East championships this past weekend in Worcester, Mass., Villanova had several strong performances. The top finish came from the novice four boat, which finished in fifth place. Both the varsity eight and novice eight boats finished in seventh place, while the varsity four was ninth, earning Villanova a ninth place finish overall in the regatta. For the last races of the season, the team will compete in the East Coast Athletic Conference Metro Regatta on Saturday and finally the Dad Vail race in Philadelphia the weekend of May 12.
Strong leadership and hard work, led by seniors Elena McDermott and Desiree Tetrault, have allowed for the success the team has seen so far this season. The team will continue to work hard in the last few weeks with the hopes that its dedication will pay off in the final two regattas. With such a young and talented roster, there is no doubt that the team will have even greater success in its coming seasons under Head Coach Jack St. Clair.
