The men’s swimming and diving team competed at Widener University on Friday, improving to 2-3 on the season with a 125-80 victory. The ‘Cats handed Widener its first loss on the season, causing the team to fall to 5-1. Sophomore AJ Mak led the way for Villanova by taking first place in all three of his events: the 1,000-meter freestyle, the 500-meter freestyle and the 400-meter freestyle relay, which also included senior Zach Rambo, junior John Schaefer and sophomore Sean Whipkey. In three different events throughout the meet – the 1,000-meter freestyle, the 200-meter butterfly and the 500-meter freestyle – ‘Cats swimmers finished in the top three spots. After losing their first three meets of the season, the men continue to improve, as they have now won their last two competitions.

With the victory, the men’s squad improved their record to 2-3, and their second consecutive win.

Both the men’s and women’s teams are now off until the new year. Next up will be a trip to Pittsburgh during the weekend of Jan. 18-19 to compete against University of Pittsburgh and University of Maryland.
