Weekly ‘American Idol’ Rankings: Top 11
March 17, 2009
After performing Michael Jackson songs, week one saw the elimination of the underwhelming Jasmine Murray and Jorge Nunez along with a new twist which allows the judges to save one exiled contestant this season.
When the judges save an exiled contestant, no one is eliminated that week while two will be eliminated the following week.
Here is a look at this week’s rankings:
The Pretenders
11. Michael Sarver
He’s a great guy, but has limited vocal skills compared to the rest of contestants.
10. Anoop Desai
After a terrible performance of “Beat It” last week, Anoop will need to rebound with a stronger performance that plays into his fun personality this week.
9. Megan Joy Corkrey
She is a gorgeous woman with a unique voice that the judges love.
Unfortunately, her performance of “Rockin’ Robin” was so fake and generic that she could be in trouble unless her song selection improves.
8. Scott MacIntyre
A great piano player with great vocal talent, Scott must take some chances that show off his vocal range to move up the rankings.
Dark Horses
7. Kris Allen
Females love him, and the man can play a guitar, even helping other contestants set up their performances last week.
Randy compared him to Jason Mraz, which is high praise.
6. Matt Giraud
His reserved bluesy take on “Human Nature” last week was great, and I think we have only seen bits and pieces of what this guy is capable of vocally.
5. Alexis Grace
She overdid her performance a bit last week, but this confident, “naughty girl,” as Kara Dioguardi called her, will be around for awhile.
Favorites
4. Lil Rounds
Her safe performance of “The Way You Make Me Feel” was underwhelming, but the woman can work the stage and powerfully sing almost any song.
3. Allison Iraheta
The fiery 16-year-old rocker with amazing pipes continued to shine with a rousing rendition of “Give It to Me.” She is in it to win it, as Randy would say.
2. Danny Gokey
Danny’s high-intensity version of “P.Y.T.” was so fun and different. He has the total package and will continue to develop as a performer with each passing week.
1. Adam Lambert
His fantastic theatrical performance of “Black and White” last week showed Adam to be the consummate showman. Incredibly polished and capable of deep connection with the audience, Adam is a force to be reckoned with.
