WILDCAT WATCH: Astrid Armgarth

Junior Astrid Armgarth has been the definition of a well-balanced swimmer for the Wildcats in her collegiate career, competing in eight different individual events, as well as numerous other team relays. Last season Armgarth, a native of Sweden, qualified for the Big East Championship in the 500 and 1650 yard freestyle and posted a pool-record 4:25.62 on the way to a first place finish in the 400 IM this past weekend at UConn, all the while balancing a chemical engineering major.
Q: Why did you come to America instead of remaining in Sweden?
A: Colleges in Sweden do not make concessions for athletes like American schools do.
Q: What’s more difficult: Division I Swimming or chemical engineering?
A: Both of them keep me up at night with work.
Q: What’s the one thing you can’t live without?
A: My sister.
Q: Pat’s or Geno’s?
A: Pat’s.
Q: Do you have a hidden talent or fun fact about yourself?
A: I can’t smell chlorine anymore.
Q: Team Nickname?
A: Strid (pronounced streed).
