Gelwicks/Curtis ticket wins SGA presidency
December 11, 2009
Juniors Daniel Gelwicks and Spencer Curtis won the positions of SGA president and vice president, respectively, for the ’09-’10 academic year, according to an announcement made today.
“I’m really excited to get started working with SGA,” Gelwicks said.
“We’re going to hit the ground running,” Curtis said.
The ticket of Gelwicks and Curtis claimed 51 percent of the student vote, giving them the majority required to win the election.
The pair ran against two other tickets. Juniors Andrew Eby and Kelly Maguire received 33 percent of the vote, while junior Miguel Gutierrez and sophomore Andrew Pagliara received 16 percent.
A total of 2,720 students voted, up from 2,154 last year.
Election results were announced today at 12:20 p.m. at the Oreo by current SGA President Bryan Wagner.
Upon the announcement, Gelwicks and Curtis celebrated with many students who had supported their campaign.
“We couldn’t have done it without our campaign team, our supporters,” Gelwicks said. “The entire credit goes to the whole team.”
The pair will take the place of seniors Wagner and Rob Dormish, who hold the positions of SGA president and vice president, respectively, for the current academic year.
As it has been done since 1999, voting took place online. Around noon yesterday, all students received an e-mail from Ralph Gigliotti from the Office of Student Development, which announced that the online polls were now open and provided a link to the voting site.
All three campaigns were seen actively campaigning near the Oreo yesterday despite the rain, encouraging students to vote and working to gain supporters.
Polls closed today at noon.
